Stop being so happy you miserable git

A's opinion of himself is this. B's opinion of A is quite different.

A is A.

To B, A is also A.

Yet theses two A's, the one as depicted by A and the one as depicted by B are quite different.

Which is the correct A? Is it the A who A believes himself to be or is it the A who B sees?

i) If the the only correct version of A is the one A thinks he is then B is wrong and the only correct version of B is that known by B.

ii) If the only correct version of A is the one known by B then A is wrong about himself yet he knows the only correct version of B there is.

Version (ii) must be wrong as if the only correct version of someone is that known by others then the differing versions these others all hold invalidates the claim. The only possible truth from this is that every person has as many versions of himself as there are people who know him.

Version (i) says that no one can know anyone but themselves and so there are as many versions of a person as there are people they know and just one correct version.

Both ideas re-stress a conclusion many would guess if asked: that the C who is your friend can be the C who is another's enemy, can be the C who is Dad, can be the C who is boss, can be the C who is the cool guy and can be the C who is "that bastard".

So what use is the idea of self?

A -"My god this dress makes me look like the most wonderful woman on the earth."

B - "My god, that man is wearing a dress"

C - "Oh my Buddha must they blaspheme"

The idea of ego-self, the qualities you bestow upon yourself are fantasy that go no further than your own mind. You can be a bumbling fart yet be in a room who consider you to be the life of the party - or visa versa or nothing of the sort. You can consider yourself right most of the time and truly be very wrong. and so on.

What does come over in life is that if you know a person who is always complaining about others; that everyone they meet 'is an idiot', 'does stuff wrong', 'can't be trusted', 'is a complete pain in the proverbial...', then the one common factor is this miserable git doing all the looking and opinionating.

If you meet a person who just has the most wonderful life and has a good day when others don't and can't see what everyone is complaining about and just thinks that life is hunkey dory morning glory 10 story love story then the common factor is them.

Put both in a room and the miserable git will find much fault in Ms happy and will no doubt find them a miserable bore. Ms happy will find the best in Mr grumpy but would prefer it if he cheered up a little.

So Grumps opinion is that Happy is an idiot. But Grump thinks he is completely right. So Grumps opinion of Happy is wrong/right?

and so what?

Wheetabix and meditation

Eat Wheetabix and instantly rinse the bowl and it is clean.

Wait a minute and you'll have to rub at it with a sponge and soap.

Wait a few minutes and you'll be chipping it off with a knife.

So a good meditative mind lets things rinse away just as they happen.

And the less good hold on to each event.

Quiet Loud Mouth

One being quiet, the other so talkative. The talkative one feels uncomfortable in the presence of the quiet and begins to jibe.

"hey, shut up" he says sarcastically. "Less chat" he smirks.

The quiet one is likely to wish to react in a way of say this:

"Most of what comes from your mouth is pointless garbage, shut up"

but quietness remains and it passes.

Neither are wrong, both are being themselves. The quiet one more rooted and the loud one more attached and directed by the whims of a ceaseless mind.

Wen Tzu Work for all

I think this was the point I forgot.

In the intro to the Wen Tzu the writer is talking about the idea of all people working in unity, all doing what they are naturally good at and doing it for the common good and not in competition. The reason this hit home was that on my way home from work yesterday I was chatting to a workmate over the exact same point.

We have a good team of people and naturally within that group there are friendships and conflicts, some people are drawn to chat together and some have grudges with each other. My workmate and I were discussing how we are both happy to take the seemingly lower position of helping another whereas some others are in a constant battle to improve themselves and take credit for jobs completed as a team.

A scenario would be that one person is rushing for a deadline and one of us will offer help in this. The person rushing may accept the help and then announce that they are going for lunch or a break or onto another task, thus leaving the person offering help doing the whole task. The double sting to this is when they return to grab the completed task and claim it as their own. This, under various formats, happens a lot, so my friend and I were talking up the dream reality of us all operating for the common good and leaving these petty games behind.

What the writer of the introduction to the Wen Tzu is doing is stating this same ideal but then stopping short of saying why this does not happen, not 2000 years ago and not now. This dream of all working for the common good is the gateway to murder: you set this dream of perfection and so you set the way for people to compete.

For this Taoist dream to be realized then much more wisdom from philosophical Taoism must first be employed, you see to expect all to work for the common good under the leadership of a company, state or country, there is already a hierarchy in place, that of a leader and subjects or staff. The common good in this case is not so common, all of these coworkers are in competition with each other and working for the good of their boss. So while the idea of working for a common good sounds very nice, the context is already set for decay.

So the author continues by saying that "What makes security secure can also create danger. Therefore when sages govern people, they see to it that people suit their individual natures, be secure in their homes, live where they are comfortable, work at what they can do, manage what they can handle, and give their best. In this way all people are equal, with no way to overshadow each other"

Natural contradictions occur even here: The sage "governing people" "encouraging people to do this do that" and so we must see all of this from another key perspective, that of non-doing. That would be the only true Taoist perspective and method that could truly work out and actuate this dream: the sage must allow all around to do as it naturally does, until nature is rebalanced. For a time the natural thing to do IS compete, is to rise and fall and take and lose until this balance has returned. People can't be told to live in order and the very desiring of it only brings about an inner conflict in the sage, person or in the leader. Wei Wu Wei is the way hey hey to have fields of whey corn and hay.

Wen Tzu

Here I am reading the intro to the Wen Tzu in English as translated by Thomas Cleary and as kindly donated to me by the Rambling Taoist, I am hit over and over by little slices of wisdom - that due to a lack of context will mean a lot or a little -

"Those who show their embellishments hide their reality"

- I am finally hit by a line later in the introduction -

which, looking back over the pages I have only recently read - i can no longer locate...

For sure there was some pertinent wisdom I was about to share and here it is, I have lost it.

Doing

The I concept and the thought of doing anything at all are incredibly silly, induce a lot of anguish and are, obviously, very egotistical.

Imagine a vast, infinite universe of rock, slime, very very large expanses of nothing, heat, cake, chickens and humans. Now imagine in that vast, bizarre infinity, there is one human who is sitting on a sofa thinking what to do tomorrow. This is madness beyond words! an incredible mental illness. He thinks that he can act on this vast infinity and have his way! He believes that he may decide to do something and it will be done by him! And if it isn't done quick smart with some financial reward then it is failure and a very important matter indeed.

The fact of the matter is that this vast infinity is not a dead lump of rocks, water, fish and chickens floating in unfathomable space. It is a dance of what we may deem energy, it is an expression of awareness, it is matter made of consciousness and within that dance little dances take place, such as universes coming and going. Within these little insignificant comings and goings of universes are smaller, less significant dances of solar systems, ecosystems, toilet cisterns, a sofa and a man, thinking about what to do next Monday.

When you leave the dance to look after itself, life is magical. If you make plans, they may fall in line with the dance, they may not. If you don't make plans, life always works out.

Compass points to Wow

I have a post due later in the year on Daily Cup of Tao about the way of seeing and a compass.

Compasses point North and so we see one way. At some point in my life my compass pointed South and I saw the world from a completely new perspective. I realized that while this new perspective was quite mind blowing (it doubled the size of my known universe) I could not live without North and so I took to balancing my compass to a perpendicular direction (East to West) and then to always appreciate life in these two perspectives: Worldly North and Spiritual South.

The way was to jump from "I-me-in-the-world" to "I-the universe and that old me as an expression of it".

Where I can see Ice melt and say 'ok, ice is made of water' and I can flick the rim of a wine glass, hear the "~tiiiing~" and say 'Matter is made of sound'.

In the past I'd have raised my eyebrows at such a comment as "matter being made of sound" and now I raise one and smirk knowingly with the other side of my face that it is more true than false.

~

I'm a Wowist monk. I am a Buddhist in that Buddha is in me not a dead man. I'm a Taoist in that I find balance and wonder in life. I'm a Vedantist in the way I see the infinite as one, indivisible. I'm married, used to take drugs, still like a very occasional beer, am vegetarian but for selfish reasons - I feel more healthy this way, I do a job, I don't own a TV, I don't follow the news, I meditate, I find wonder in every moment and if everyone was like me the world would be very peaceful indeed. Thankfully everyone is not like me, so life is all the more fascinating. And that is why the infinite incarnates in so many interesting ways - for love of the show.

Maybe you are a Wowist too?

~~

Thanks to the Rambling Taoist for writing a post on me today, and for the generous donation of The Book of Wen Tzu. Very kind indeed. Thanks.

Errors made at reincarnation

Errors made at reincarnation.

On death a few people were given choices of rebirth.

The basic question being: Here you are, on the threshold of entering the One or the choice of rebirth, what choose you?

These people all decided on rebirth.

Person A, a boy, said: "I wish to be born in a world where every woman is beautiful" And so he was reborn as an ugly girl, and every woman he saw or met was indeed beautiful by comparison.

Person B said: "I wish to be reborn to a world where everywhere I look is an exotic delight" and so she was reborn in a slum in Bangladesh with a small TV set that played TV shows and movies where everywhere she looked was an exotic delight.

Person C said: "I wish to be reborn into a world where everyone is incredibly passionate" and so he was reborn to a nation a war where both sides were in a non-stop battle over religious differences.

~

So here I am not saying these cases are real or that we choose rebirth in this way, but I am saying to be careful over what you wish for in life. If you wish for everyone around you to be happy in your company, then maybe the result is that you die and your family are forever sad. Perhaps if you wish for money you never have love. Perhaps if you desire freedom you never make good friends.

Desire is a powerful force and all the best sages will say "steer clear of it".

Enlightenment for the selfish I

Wishing to be free of suffering and wanting enlightenment are very selfish acts of the i-ego. Although if the mind is to be wrapped up in any matter it may as well be this.

The truth is changeless, it never alters one bit. There outside of the bounds of time and space it has no action or form and no duration. Precisely EVERYTHING beyond that one truth can be said to be the mind. The mind at play and the mind obsessed over itself. When the mind has conjured up enough splits and forms it takes refuge in a body it has made and it pieces together a little kernel, a local point that it uses to refer to, attach ideas and concepts to, and it knows this as i-ego. This i-ego forms a world for itself to play in. This may be known as the subjective world of thoughts. A set of local thoughts and ideas which go to forming a world, one of stress and anxiety, or one of joy, most likely one of variation.

At some point this i-ego can be stirred from its made up self, star of its own show, world and can be given the idea of a new view, one free of this churning and change. One that is free of suffering and so on. The i-ego-mind is naturally quite interested in this, it has spent many years giving value to things and it rates this highly. It would like to buy it, have it for itself, or perhaps, if pushed, do some quick-fix steps to get it.

And so the quest for enlightenment.

However, when the i-ego is told that the world it lives is in solely a fabrication, one made of mind, it becomes a little confused and decides this thing must be learned about. So it buys books, DVD's, the company of wise or flowery people.

Time and time again the i-ego is told that it must attempt to go beyond mind, it must cast aside its ideas and preconceptions, it must HAHAHA destroy the i, the ego, the mind! It is not too impressed by this and more often than not, sits at some half way house or gives in all together.

~~

But it is not so difficult as all that. There is the alternate route. [ego wakes up to listen eagerly] but the result is the same, ego, i, and all the falsehood must go. This route is inquiry. It is best done with as little learning as possible and it must be determined, it must deter mind.

The method has two prongs: Fork one is to find the source behind the source behind the source behind the ..etc.. Until it is recognised that the one element behind, happiness, joy, sleep, thought, emptiness, pre-birth, pre-time, pre-concept, is the same. And fork two is to recognise ALL that changes, all that is transient, as the show of the mind and nothing more than mind.

When all that changes and emerges and flows and goes is seen as mind. And the unchanging root is recognised as the root to all, then the joining of the fork at the handle can take place.

Daily Cup of Tao is now a full cup

The Daily Cup of Tao blog is complete. I have written and posted all of the 365(ish) posts and they will all come one by one, daily, until 30 Nov 2010. That will mark one year of mini posts from that blog.

This leaves me back here so in all likelihood new posts I think of will be posted here on Tao Wow and the daily mini posts will keep appearing over on Daily Cup of Tao all by themselves.

Now, some of you will have noticed that the blog there often has a lack in quality but each post meant something when I wrote it so I will refrain from editing them and just let them run their course.

For now thanks for keeping up with the daily posts and hopefully there will be something enlightening between now and November 2010.

My Death

My friend is researching a book and asked me some questions based on my NDE. Here are my answers mixed with his questions.

~~

And are you less afraid than before, or unafraid of death now?

When I was around 12 years old I wrote a story at school stating how I was not afraid of death and could easily just slip away. I based a short and poorly written story on this idea. The teachers comment on the piece was “no one would think this”.

Now, what we have is an odd situation as: Of course someone would think this, as I wrote it for one, and two, roughly two thirds of the world have traditions based on a similar perspective.

4 billion to one against you teacher.

As for fear of death this is hard without a context. Would I if told I was about to die fear it? Would I fear it as I fear for the ones I would leave behind? Would this be worse if I was 20 years old and had one child who I was the only guardian as compared to if I was 90 years old and the last of my known relatives still here? Sure. Context paints the picture and explains a little how death is a concern.

What people fear is the thought of those left behind and the dissolution and end of their ego. Death is easy for the one who dies and hard on the ones left behind. It would be a great gift to let every person on earth know that when someone dies, this is not sad and not an end – that way both of these fears could be removed: No concern for those left behind and no last wrestling with the ego.

The NDE is a very powerful experience that does clear up these human concerns. It would indeed be a gift if it could be given.

Death is not an end and is no bad thing. If I died now I would die peacefully and in bliss.

As for these known repeated occurrences:

-Hearing sounds such as buzzing

No

-Feeling absolute peace and painlessness

Absolutely, and wonder and completeness.

-Having an out-of-body experience

Completely

-Traveling through a tunnel

Yes, for a time

-Rising into the heavens

Similar to above, not called heavens by me

-Seeing angels or dead relatives

Not as such, I met an old man who had invented Hinduism who was painting statues of deities he had made, his wife was there and he explained how inventing religion was a useful tool that had served a purpose, (Note later how my experience happened in India on a very sacred beach called Om beach and made of two bays that formed the left side of an Om when seen on a map. The location and books I had been interested in at that time may well have painted this meeting with the 'inventor' character of Hinduism). Also I sat in absolute silence with Buddha. This part seemed absolutely genuine and the message from the silence was of Buddhas recognition and mine that nothing need be said, all was complete.

-Meeting a spiritual being such as God

Not quite, but see above. As well as Buddha I did also interact with a Gaia type character, female voice only, but more importantly I reached a point of no beings, no separations, and pure completeness – no room for God, no duality.

-Seeing a review of one’s life

Not as such but not no

-Feeling reluctant to return to life

Not reluctant but happy, very happy to stay. In fact I welcomed the experience and to come back to what I find an amazing experience that is life and to now have a Death Experience to look back upon.

So I would have stayed and been perfectly at rest, but I welcomed and maybe even chose to return to a life that I found and still find incredible. Happy here, happy there, as I know they are the same oneness.

THE NDE

I call it a Death Experience not a Near Death Experience.

I experienced death, not near death. We are all near death, all dying and living. Living and dying are simultaneous acts that form life.

The build up

I had an experience in a forest with a tree and I recognised in that tree, perfection. This simple experience was profound and lasted years, at the time intense. I had further sub experiences at that time. One night I had one in a pub whilst staring into a beer glass and I went home and bought a flight to India (what would be my second visit).

I arrived there and spent the first seven weeks in a hammock. I met people and had conversations and some found my observations odd, some found them fascinating and I spent a lot of time alone, in the hammock, on the beach, quite complete. People asked me what I was doing in India, where I was going, what I had seen, where I had been – I knew and I said that there was no where to go, no where to be other than here and if I never moved an inch nothing would be wrong.

The reason I moved on after seven weeks was that two Friends arrived, two friends I had planned to meet and they had plans to move. We went across country and then over the sea (3 days on a boat) to the Indian owned Andaman Islands – Beautiful. One day we were fishing and the hook we were using was far too big, We caught nothing which was great as I did not like the idea of fishing. Suddenly my friend caught a fish and puled it up. The huge hook had gone in the fishes mouth and out of his upper head above its eye. My friend became squeamish and backed off leaving me and the fish. I wrestled with the hook to set the fish free. All there was was suffering and a worsening of the situation. I took my nearby “cutty” (a large knife we carried for opening coconuts) and chopped off the fish's head.

That day I became completely vegetarian and from that day on I felt much lighter and happier as vegetarian. Now I did not worry for the fish who had died but saw first hand the suffering required to put meat on a plate. If everyone had to kill their meal and prepare the flesh then over 90 percent of people, maybe more, would be vegetarian.

After the Andaman Islands we spent somewhere over six weeks in a yoga Ashram. I had an experience similar to my 'tree' experience. I was lying in Dead Man's Pose and a Lion, no shit, roared in a nearby area. The experience I had was deeply moving.

We had some more weeks moving up India to a very hot and rocky place and here I became quite ill. I have always been a slim build, India and switching vegetarian and the lower need to eat in a hot climate and so on had made me much slimmer. I got ill and barely ate a thing for over two weeks. I ate bits and they came back, I could hardly stomach water. I obviously took enough as to not die but I was sick and weak for all of this time. [It was a year until my body was close to normal again].

On Om beach one night after a couple of days hard travel to get there, very week, very tired. Very malnourished – I died.

The Death Experience.

This experience was a build up of the above, it was steered by the places I was in, the books I was reading, the journey I was on, certainly the Illness and certainly this: I took a large dose of liquid LSD that day.

Sick as I was I walked with my two friends to a house where a man was said to have acid. We spoke to him, payed him a small amount of cash. He dripped a dose of liquid LSD onto our hands and, even though it was absorbed into the skin we licked our hands to be sure of intake.

After that I was in the sea, after that I was walking on the beach, the daylight sky above was multicoloured, after that I was on my back, in the sand and the stars in the night sky where in crystal refracted 3D. I could reach and touch them. The sky itself took on unseen forms and – for sure this was an LSD trip, hours and hours passed. From an early morning dose to late at night were compressed into the previous couple of sentences.

My weakened body melted with the sand and I tripped on Om beach.

At some point I was tripping. At some point I was unconscious, at some point asleep, at some point – I had a unique experience that was death – this was not LSD. I have to ask you to put aside natural presumptions that would have you say that the experience was a 'trip' as: As I was the experiencer, I was and am able to differentiate, so much so that I had both on the same night, back to back and they were unique- the Death experience much deeper, much more real, much more long lasting. It came after the LSD trip had been wearing off for a time, when my weak body was back to realizing its suffering, when tiredness and weakness took over again,

[Strangely (or was it), as sick as I was, that is terribly so, for the two weeks before this event – I woke the next day, completely healthy, full appetite, and with all of my energy replenished.]

At some point that night I knew, for sure, I was dying, I knew when I was close to death, I knew the point I had accepted death, I knew, for certain, as with all of these stages, each one, what they were and what they meant. I knew when I was dead.

The bliss and completeness were un-put-into-wordable and I have accepted that now years on. The experience is with me now but language does not exist to paint it and nor can I find how to begin.

I tried on several occasions to write notes on “The Answers” that I was presented with on that night and I met responses of complete mystification or negativity whenever I tried to pass on these truths that had been unveiled to me that night.

I stopped trying to attempt to pass them on.

The basics of the truths that were clearly made to me that night are that: All is this, one, perfect. Life and death are nothing but ideas. The idea of separate self is an idea. We are like nodes of a complete net and each node is the whole net but for this experience only sees as far as the next few nodes – beyond that is mystery, yet beyond that is infinity and if anything is infinite, it is also you. You're infinite, you are me as I am you as we are one. The one.

Life and death are not separate but one action. The “universe” the “infinite” whatever you call it, is living, it has beings. These beings come and go, but their coming and going are not life or death. An infinite number beings have been born and will be born. An Infinite number of beings have died and will die. Yet in all of this living and dying, the infinite had no beginning and will have no end. And that infinite, is you.

We think in time and space - not live in time and space

"We think in time and space - not live in time and space"

I often enjoy reading the new findings on the Electric Universe model. Todays article had more of an esoteric angle than normal:

"What science produces is neither universally true nor real, but is created by the observer and is relative to his predispositions and equipment. As a result, it is not complete but selected, not objective but subjective, and not unique but partial.

This produces an observer-created reality, says physicist Roger Jones, in which "the observer and observed ... cannot be broken down into independent components" because "the observer has an uncontrollable and non-removable effect on what is observed."

The result, according to physicist Arthur March, is that "what is perceived is....the effects brought to light by this procedure," effects which "are created by this process." This means that the scientist each time he observes creates something new, for, as physicist John Wheeler says, "this is a participatory universe.""

Reasons cveitch is wrong to call for revolution – and reasons he's right.

EDITED: For clarity.

Charlie Veitch comes with a difference, he is funny, he has got all our attention and he is determined to make a difference. Let it be known from the outset that I support and admire his work. I love the cheeky Neo and the angle he has taken in fighting and standing up against oppression.

Two things emerged in one of his latest videos. One a reoccurring theme and one new. The new one was in response to a letter he received. And to paraphrase his paraphrase it was along the lines of: "War is just as when you force one side against another, as ultimately they are all actions of the same Oneness, the One is forced to choose who wins."

Now this sounds like wise esoterica, well yes we say, "all is one so this has truth here..." Yet what is happening is that a dual and simplistic mind view is being leapfrogged into an enlightened view. This is done by mystics and gurus over and over, it is a powerful tool. You set up an obvious truth to get the 'nod' you attach it to an undeniable truth such as 'all is one' and you place a full stop and a knowing smile. Your audience too nod – They accept it, and few take time to sit with it.

If you do sit with it though you are left with this: 'Ultimate truth is not dual and is inexplicable in words. To tie a dualistic notion to it is just a trick of the mind and with no more substance.'

There is no One separate to One to make this decision. The most that could be said is that 'war is action of the whole' but given sitting time that too is false: war is always against another and true oneness is against nothing.

~~

The meat of the issue is that Charlie calls for revolution and states how this must be the way we end all the problems. My reaction is always "You can not end violence with violence" "A bomb does not stop bombs".

The position of the NWO and the forces who forge this veil of separation that people then fight, like a clown fighting his way out of a bag that; 1) is open and 2) he placed over himself, is that they are the ones who believe violence and oppression wins. - For them it does. For us it is the antithesis.

They place the weapons, the issues, the famine the death, the fear of failure, the society that paints you as separate, weak, failed, - who must buy your way out of this mess, who can not be happy or complete without acting your part in their play. They put that in place. They place you in a game of chess and you fight back under their rules. Get off the chess board!

To fight back with violence, revolution or any such method is to accept as real the illusion, the bag over the head, and fight within that rule set. I call for no such thing.

What is important is to realise your true being. That self you have and fear for the life of is one of a trillion costumes you wear. You look out of a pair of eyes that is one pair of trillions. You think with a mind that is one of trillions. You are all of this. Not the one reading. You are the environment, you are the experiencer – but ultimately you are this. You are that from which all this comes and that which it is. On that level we are all one. See the futility in fighting now?

From that perspective also, and with great importance, you must also see how non-compliance is the most powerful tool. NO I wont vote as all the choices I have will go to war. I will not vote in a government that will go to war, any war. NO I will not vote as all the choices I have are telling me how to live. I will not vote for a system that attempts to tell me how to be. NO I will not pay tax as that tax is used in horrific ways. NO I will not buy your shit, I will not watch your TV, your adverts, I will not watch your programs (DOWNLOAD your PROGRAMS into myself of how to think and act) I will not watch your movies that pre-program me into the goals and desires of your game, I will not accept the news, I will not fear peer pressure over stating my heartfelt distaste for your game and your lies. I WILL take every moment to expose you.

And in that way (above paragraph), I support Charlie all the way. But not for revolution. Revolution will come from peace.

When I say Tao, Self, Heart, Root, Infinite, EveryNothing, It, I...

I refer to...

"That in which all these worlds seem to exist steadily, that of which all these worlds are a possession, that from which all these worlds arise, that for which all these exist, that by which all these worlds come into existence and that which is indeed all these - that alone is the existing reality. Let us cherish that Self, which is the Reality, in the Heart."

Everything is OK

NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHED
The Love Police . org

This is a compilation of some of the best "Everything is OK" which is two guys in the UK going around and telling people what they should know, in a humorous, enlightening, yet sarcastic manner.

NOTE: One of these guys occasionally goes off the rails a little in some of his videos, calling for revolution and force. I do not advocate this one bit. The message in the above movie contains none of that so ENJOY!
