The Enlightened one

It is a sorry thing that people seek enlightenment and that some people are titled as Enlightened.

All you can possibly be is 'One who is pretending to be unenlightened' as if you were not pretending such then you would see that all is enlightenment and this is not a title for a person or a any thing which is other than something else.

Advaita Tao

Advaita, All that can be, and yet, what every I can not see.

Unless you have directly burned through and detached from I-in-the-world then you’ll find this next statement seems to be conceptual, far fetched, meaningless nonsense.

'I can not die, I have lived every life, I have been the environment in which that life was lived and I have been that living natural world.'

You are nothing but what I am also, except for group reinforced mistaken identity.

A clothes line is no longer a clothes line when the string is cut. 48 strings and a stick are 48 strings and a stick but using one string to tie 47 to the stick it is a mop. One piece of string and a stick could be a fishing pole, bow, whip, or a way to hang a basket. A heap of sheet metal and rivets could be made to float you over the ocean. The arrangement of parts calls for a name. Disassembled or reassembled the name must be changed.

No matter your view or understanding of science, even if you deem it fanciful guesswork or if you are sold down the line as to how it holds the answer to every question, then either way or any other way you say: “The universe is made of parts”. The arrangement of parts would have you say that you are you and a tree is a tree. Why not indeed? This forms a very practical situation.

Given your own version of science the universe will be constructed of anything from the five elements to the 7 flavours of Quark or some other similar or far fetched theory. Analyzing these parts then you or the scientists you depend upon will find parts, they will do this ad infinitum but convinced at each step they have reached the indivisible atom. Of course the atom was only literally atomic, indivisible, until it was divided. Then the mop became a stick and String Theory.

Science aims to prove and some people agree without looking that there will eventually be a true atom, a point where division is impossible. How their logic allows for this I have no idea as 1) If unsplittable, then what is it made from? 2) Where is it? ‘Where’ is very important a question when you are looking at ‘what’ as the ‘what’ and the ‘where’ seem to be two things and thus disproving that the ‘what’ is elementary. This is saying nothing even of what is observing the what.

Besides the actual searching and various descriptions we have come up with for ‘what stuff is made of’ the generally held idea is that arrangements of this ‘what’ goes to make the independent separate entities, person and tree.

You will be in one of many schools of thought then but clustered into one of only two groups; They who see that one elementary part arranged in various ways forms the world described by language, and They who see that language induces the very idea that there must be some base part.

Those who say that the universe is merely arrangements of one core part -must- now see that there is no true division one thing to another, and those who see that language infers parts from what is truly One, have already seen this. A consensus.

Now that all parties hold a similar consensus, that the universe is One but for labels, then we have what Advaita says. One, not Two. Tao.

The Two that is so strongly denied by Advaita is rendered in so many ways from Me and You, to Friend and Foe, Life and Death, Good and Bad, Heaven and Hell, God and Devil, object and subject, thing and observer, to any duality and any entry into the world of conceptual thought and labels, life as we “know” it.

Advaita is not though to deny life as we know it, but to affirm it, just as it IS and not as it seems to be.

When you can exist with a consistent background of peace, you can see all life as is, living forever deathless, then you are being what you truly are.

When you question or compare this to that, affirm or deny, seek, think, then you are pretending to be a conceptual part 'I-separate'.

No one Enlightened

I made a comment on another blog about enlightenment...

""That a person is enlightened or not is void as a person is a collection of ideas and concepts. The person only appears separate from reality due to these very concepts and is not in fact real but for mind made ideas.

To take an undivided whole and split it with the mind into people, environment, enlightened and unenlightened and then spend time trying to reconcile the split is the farce of seeking enlightenment.

There is not actually a person with the qualities of enlightenment as that would simply be a further idea or concept attached to the person who is already only a separate person due to a set of ideas and concepts.

Removing all concepts then there is no separation, no separate being or person, and so no one to have this quality of enlightenment applied to them.

The only title a person may have is 'unenlightened' and that is the case of the seeker, one who has separated themselves, and is now seeking to reconnect with, that which they could never be separate from in all of infinity.

Enlightenment is not the state of a person but a state free from the concept of the separate person.

Book Giveaway

Due to incompetence, clerical errors and the position of the moon, I have needed to make 3 drafts of the Person of Tao book.

The first edition has a few spelling errors and some layout issues. It is also soiled by my mucky fingers. This will be first prize.

The 2nd edition has less spelling errors but I may have made the font too small.

The 3rd edition should be perfect, but of course I wont find the errors until I see it.

I will give away the books to the most worthy people.

Who are you?

Enlightenment for the selfish I

Wishing to be free of suffering and wanting enlightenment are very selfish acts of the i-ego. Although if the mind is to be wrapped up in any matter it may as well be this.

The truth is changeless, it never alters one bit. There outside of the bounds of time and space it has no action or form and no duration. Precisely EVERYTHING beyond that one truth can be said to be the mind. The mind at play and the mind obsessed over itself. When the mind has conjured up enough splits and forms it takes refuge in a body it has made and it pieces together a little kernel, a local point that it uses to refer to, attach ideas and concepts to, and it knows this as i-ego. This i-ego forms a world for itself to play in. This may be known as the subjective world of thoughts. A set of local thoughts and ideas which go to forming a world, one of stress and anxiety, or one of joy, most likely one of variation.

At some point this i-ego can be stirred from its made up self, star of its own show, world and can be given the idea of a new view, one free of this churning and change. One that is free of suffering and so on. The i-ego-mind is naturally quite interested in this, it has spent many years giving value to things and it rates this highly. It would like to buy it, have it for itself, or perhaps, if pushed, do some quick-fix steps to get it.

And so the quest for enlightenment.

However, when the i-ego is told that the world it lives is in solely a fabrication, one made of mind, it becomes a little confused and decides this thing must be learned about. So it buys books, DVD's, the company of wise or flowery people.

Time and time again the i-ego is told that it must attempt to go beyond mind, it must cast aside its ideas and preconceptions, it must HAHAHA destroy the i, the ego, the mind! It is not too impressed by this and more often than not, sits at some half way house or gives in all together.

~~

But it is not so difficult as all that. There is the alternate route. [ego wakes up to listen eagerly] but the result is the same, ego, i, and all the falsehood must go. This route is inquiry. It is best done with as little learning as possible and it must be determined, it must deter mind.

The method has two prongs: Fork one is to find the source behind the source behind the source behind the ..etc.. Until it is recognised that the one element behind, happiness, joy, sleep, thought, emptiness, pre-birth, pre-time, pre-concept, is the same. And fork two is to recognise ALL that changes, all that is transient, as the show of the mind and nothing more than mind.

When all that changes and emerges and flows and goes is seen as mind. And the unchanging root is recognised as the root to all, then the joining of the fork at the handle can take place.

Unity of truths simplified, sagehood for all who can 'not do'

"There are no such states as before and after enlightenment." - The Buddha.

There is nothing to be achieved and there is no one to achieve it.

There is no one to be awakened.

Being is an idea through time. Move your hand and that motion is an idea of the senses and not real. Your moving hand is Maya (illusion) and your hand is made of Prakti (The substance of illusion). We only see Maya and not truth as that which is registered by our senses is compared to memory, and memory is not real. So real + fake can not = real. The flow of light to retina and that seen is REAL - BUT as soon as consigned is Maya. Consigning involves comparing the direct input of the senses to a memory or idea, and memories are at best imperfect registration of a past happening. Not real in themselves.

Meditation is a way of pretending to be in the Enlightened state (and rarely the pretending is near close for most who try). However one who has the truth may spontaneously meditate, as they may also spontaneously burp, whistle, drum, chew a leaf or speak. As they with true knowledge do not do.

Can one who is pretending to do what they believe to be sitting ZaZen achieve enlightenment? No. As someone who is pretending to drop a cup can not break it. Also the act, the action, has a doer and a doer is not awake to truth, so a doer of meditation is removed from the access of truth by their doing.

Where Karma means action, Phalum means the fruit of action. So 'doing for Phalum involves Karma' which also translates as 'doing for the Fruit is Action'.

No fruit, no karma. Karma is escaped by simply not desiring reward for action. That easy. No 7 lifetimes, no working off bad debt, no crashing your car because you pointed and starred at someone with a wart on their nose, or any such silly games. Karma no longer exists when the fruit is not desired. Detachment is gained.

Detachment via this method and Non-Doing via the one previously are the unification of Hinduism's, Buddhism's and Taoism's highest principals in one swoop.

Not seeking enlightenment is enlightenment BUT!! There is much more to it than that. The one must also be absolutely free on the seeking of anything or the doing of any acts. Life very much should go on, be deeply pleasurable and wonderful - but have no doer. Only detached spectator who is here only for the ride and not for the fruit.

This is a sage and that sage knows that the time they live within and the motions seen within that are nothing but a show, reflections shimmering off the lake of truth.

What is seeing? Zen.

To see the now we still have a duality. Much of this battle is with language - like who is having this battle?

Truly there is no one to be on the path to enlightenment. There can be no path, there can only be that which is. There can be no one to experience the now. There can be no now as what is now?

Now is a concept formed from concepts of past and future, so is as false a notion as either. Knowing now is a knower. Neither knower or now can exist as entities so we are bouncing around traps of language.

The aim is to summarize this oneness, timelessness, I-lessness without setting up a new trap in our dualist language.

The English language always has a noun doing a verb. It is next to impossible to escape this. But as long as we recognize that as what needs to be done then we can escape the duality; only we can not then speak of it.

But I will......

Mind, matter, "reality", I, world, space, time, are all mind.

The fact that you are an object to me, but you call yourself I, means that we are both the I. Both the I! Both the one I! Both the same one I!

There is only one I. I looking at object is split-mind but both I and object are I and are mind. There is no split only an idea, I splitting by focusing on bits.

That I can only exist in time means that I is an idea. Only the I absent of time can be enlightened. So no one can be enlightened as they are an idea cast through the idea of time. Enlightenment has no time or I only the recognition that all is.

The so called event of "I becoming enlightened" is naturally a false concept built on the false split mind ideas of I and time and being or not as separate things.

Enlightenment is not a state of extended bliss as what is extended, what is bliss and who experiences it? It is the direct recognition of what is. This takes no stages, is not had or had not and is instant as there is no time.

This mind, this world, these objects, these I's are all I and all the mind. Recognizing you as I, I as I, object as I, time as I, reality as I and all as mind; is the final recognition.

Zen.

The wave who wanted to be the ocean

The big wave who wanted to be as vast as the ocean - eventually gave up trying to get bigger and bigger - it dropped down, forgot itself and became.

Only an ego searches for enlightenment as an ego is the only thing that is not enlightened. The only fake in reality is this idea of self.

When ego finds what it selfishly seeks it finds the absence of ego. Realizing itself as nothing but an idea, it renders itself Extinguished.

What reality finds when it is rid of ego is that ..

You can not become what you already are.

Original face

Drop the desire for enlightenment and then you are "not-I" and you regain your original face.

Anyone seeking enlightenment is of course not enlightened. Nor could anyone ever be enlightened, as on enlightenment, there is no I.

"I seeking enlightenment" is bound.

"Enlightened" is no-I, free.

So drop the idea you could ever achieve, as that achiever is not even possibly real. Drop the idea of an achieving entity so there is no longer a desirer; and then you reach the non-I, and there is enlightenment...

The one you are is that which is

"The one you are is that which is"

You get it? or

"The one you are is the be what am"

"The out there is not"

"The in here is not"

"The out there is you"

When you eat or breath there is something appearing to be out that goes in. That boundary you have a notion of is imaginary. Truly the food was always and will always be you. It was you way before you ate it and it crossing that imaginary boundary where you tasted it and began to dissolve it did not mean it was outside of you and is now inside of you.

This whole thing is acting. This whole thing is the only reality and it has always been. With no time, no real dimensions, it just acts. "You" then form time and ideas of separation "I ate the cabbage, I put it in my belly" - No you didn't, the universe acted and you got the impression that there is a you and some "thing" you did.

Few take on this as an intellectual endeavour to prove this to the intellect - "there is no I" - and they don't have to. The goal is truly to heart it, no thought, no logic, no analysis, just be it. Very very very few have done that.

Yet it is the only way it could be, it just is that way, recognised or not, it is.

Many just live with the false illusion, few try to work out the truth, very very very few live it.

What to do in killing I?

It is not to remove this "I"

It is not to work on the "I"

It is to recognise the true reality

and that is absent of any "I"

To work on the "I", to improve, or fix,
To aim to remove the "I" or prove it unreal,
are to re-enforce the "I" which is to enforce an illusion.

To recognise the true nature of reality will kill any idea of "I"
Job done.

Tao Wow | Daily Cup of Tao

No there no me no worries

Lets begin from the dual position that all I's live in.

There is perceiver and perceived.

Now:

Turn off perceiver -> there is nothing perceived.

or

Turn off perceived -> there is no perceiving.

So that dual split that people see as real and have so much trouble shaking is not even possible. It is not and can not be the case.

These emotions and feelings and qualities good and bad that are applied to things, they are only possible when there is an "I" saying they are there. And I has no reality, so what of these qualities?

They are a delusion of illusion.

There is no separation, there is an action: all.

You have very little choice in the face of this truth - you simply have to be blown away by it. You, the I is blown away.. it leaves only the true reality.

This is bliss.

Fixing the self

As long as you work on the self you are working on an illusion, an idea.

The self has no reality so all work on the self is trying to clean your reflection from a mirror.

The more you try, the more you re-enforce the very illusion you are out to drop.

The opposite enlightenment

Enlightenment is just so, not dual, and so has no opposite.

"Clearly factually false" says the thinker. "The opposite of enlightenment is un-enlightenment"

No.

Enlightenment has no opposite as it contains no opposites, or even notions. It is, just.

This is why it hmmmmm

it is not even

I assume you have the necessary equipment for enlightenment

You are with a computer now. So you have all you will need.

Enlightenment can not be got but if you keep learning that and you don't try to get it then it will get you, it will creep up on you and get you, you won't be able to stop it - There is no you who could get it, so trying is failing - but it will get you, you can't stop that, it will take you, you'll feel it and then you'll know you never were but are.

1) You looking at computer - Dual

2) You seeing computer as you - Recognising oneness, but dual - Important recognition - The last step of mind

3) One being - Neither ? or ! just     all

"It's a computer made of bits and I am a human made of goo?" NO big fail, these are past memories being dragged up and given reality and shaping reality and that is not reality.

Reality is not this, not that, not this knowing that that is also this - but                 neither | or | just     all

Moment by moment the only moment

"The short lived glimpse of your true nature is only the beginning of the awakening process and the practice of observing one's self. As this practice continues and strengthens in consistency and duration, we start to become more and more established in this satori.

We may realize that no matter what, there is only one moment at a time. We may also realize that we can only be in a state of higher consciousness during that one moment (at a time). So no matter what, we can only be enlightened one moment at a time."

Is attachment to enlightenment the final hurdle?

"Don’t waste time in arguments and discussion,
attempting to grasp the ungraspable."

"To live in this Realization
is to not worry about perfection or non-perfection."

Hsin Hsin Ming - Verses on the perfect mind

"even an attachment to enlightenment is to go astray.
Just let things be in their own way as they are,"

"Be in harmony with the Way
and you will be free of disturbances.
Tied by your thoughts, you lose the truth,"

Enlightenment is not a thing that can be had but once recognised becomes a thing we would always love to maintain. This of course is as as tied to things as any other state so is failure.

"Indeed, to accept them fully
is identical with true Enlightenment.
The wise attaches to no goals,
but the foolish fetter themselves."

Here this Zen poem echoes the wisdom of the Tao (well summed up in a number of passages of the Ch'ing Ching Ching and in nearly all Taoist writings) in saying that it is the movement that we have to be in touch with, to embrace it all with no such distinctions as wanting one state or another.

Tied permanently to a state you feel to be enlightened is as much bondage and death as to be tied to any other thing.

"Using mind to stir up the mind
is the original mistake."

"Peaceful and troubled derive from thinking;
Enlightenment has no likes or dislikes."
